Central Church Jail and Prison Ministries

Those incarcerated in our local jail system are often frightened and unsure of what their future holds. We are there to exhibit the love and compassion of the Lord Jesus Christ and to guide inmates to an understanding of God’s plan of redemption for them. We help men, women, and young people grow to maturity in their walk with the Lord. A correspondence Bible study course offers the inmate an opportunity to grow in the Word of God.

You can help by:
• Traveling with the prison outreach team into the prison facilities of North and South Carolina.
• Volunteering in our jail outreach in Mecklenburg, Union or York Counties.
• Helping in our discipleship ministry, reaching inmates through a Bible correspondence course.

Alexander Youth Network

Alexander Youth Network provides quality professional treatment to foster children of Mecklenburg County with serious emotional and behavioral problems. They deliver an effective and efficient array of services, enabling children and their families to exercise self-determination, achieve their potential, and find long-lasting positive ways to connect with their community. Alexander has continued to pursue its vision of providing a full array of behavioral healthcare services to children from 5-18, and delivering more treatment services to them in the community and in the home, additional services for older children, several new community-based programs, and a shelter for runaways and children in crisis.

Christian Family Services, Inc.

Christian Family Services is an adoption agency, licensed as a child placing agency in South Carolina. They join with other agencies, organizations, and individuals in South Carolina who are concerned with providing positive alternatives to abortion, assisting those in crisis pregnancies, and assisting those seeking adoption services.

You can help by:
• Donating maternity clothes.
• Housing a birth mother during her pregnancy and several weeks after.
• Providing transportation for a birth mother.
• Giving office support such as answering the phone and secretarial duties.
• Referring Christian families who want to adopt and women who struggle with unintended pregnancies.

Compassion in Action

Our food pantry at Central Church at Union Road (Gastonia) serves residents of Gaston County preparing weekly  groceries for approximately 100 families. Compassion in Action needs volunteers. On Mondays, strong bodies are needed to both load and unload a truck with donated food items. On Tuesdays, volunteers are needed to pack groceries. To volunteer, call 704.864.9493.


Crisis Pregnancy Center of Gastonia

Elon Homes for Children

Elon Homes and Schools for Children provides a safe haven, life skills and education to over 1,000 children and families a year in North Carolina. In all their programs and schools across eleven North Carolina counties, high quality care and education are offered. Following the passage of the 1997 Adoption and Safe Family Act, which mandated significant reform in the national child welfare system, more children are placed in foster care than in residential campus settings. Elon Homes and Schools for Children continues to expand its foster care program to help meet the increasing need for good foster care programs.

You can help by:
• Sponsoring special events or games and bringing gifts during the holiday season.
• Serving as a homework buddy or lunch buddy.
• Organizing cookouts and bringing refreshments to their young people throughout the year, for holidays or birthdays.

Hope Cancer

Client base consists of cancer patients, caregivers or people who are grieving the loss of a loved one to cancer. Each client receives an "in-take" interview in their home by a client coordinator and a volunteer coordinator. The purpose is to assess the individual's or family's unique needs. Every client is then matched with a trained volunteer who will walk with them, a prayer partner who will pray for them, and a card partner who will routinely send cards of encouragement. Hope Cancer services are free of charge.

You can help by:
• Becoming a one-on-one partner with a client (cancer patient, caregiver or someone grieving a loss).
• Writing cards of encouragement each month to clients.
• Cooking and delivering meals to a client's home.
• Providing transportation for a cancer patient to his/her medical treatments or doctor appointments.
• Becoming a phone buddy to encourage a client.
• Helping at a special event like the benefit concert, Kate's Race Memorial 5K Run/Walk or the Changing Leaves, Changing Lives 10K race.
• Assisting in the office with mass mailings or clerical work.
• Providing handyman services at the Hope Cancer office or at a client's home.

Operation Christmas Child

Progressive Baptist Church

YouthQuake is a Christian summer day camp to keep kids off the street. The camp is for nine weeks of the summer, for ages 5-17. Salvation Army Homeless Shelter, Center of Hope

The shelter seeks to provide daily stability and a permanent way out of homelessness. As Charlotte's only 24/7 year-round emergency shelter, the Center of Hope—a 36,000 square-foot facility with 224 beds on-site and 100 beds in satellite locations—routinely operates at capacity. Center of Hope offers a comprehensive program of on-site services, including the nation's only Boys & Girls Club within a homeless shelter.

You can help by:
• Aiding the front desk with telephone calls, 8-5pm, Monday – Friday
• Tutoring children after school in the Boys & Girls Club, 4-6pm, Monday – Thursday
• Assisting adults in the Computer Lab, mornings & early evenings, Monday – Friday

Senior Government Housing

Support is provided for elderly/disabled residents within government housing. All programs and activities help to achieve the goal of ensuring that elderly/disabled residents age in place to the greatest extent possible. Contact the church office if you are interested.

You can help by:
• Assisting or creating a Bible study, a worship group, or arts and crafts program, such as flower arranging, jewelry making, pottery, etc.
• Sharing information on living wills, power of attorney and hospice care.
• Grief counseling.
• Educating on frauds and scams, rental assistance, and understanding forms, such as taxes, SSI & SSA, lease agreements, etc.
• Teaching housekeeping and personal hygiene.
• Leading activity therapy for stimulation of the mind and improvement in motor skills.
• Supporting and strengthening the community network.
• Teaching life skills classes such as diet and health, money management, vocational training, etc.
